On October 15, 2009 in Fort Collins, Colorado Richard and Mayumi Heene allowed a gas balloon filled with helium to float away into the atmosphere and then claimed that their six-year-old son Falcon was inside it!! What really happened was that Falcon was found later that day hiding in the his home’s attic the entire time!!!
Of course the media went crazy with this story and later that evening this family was interviewed by Wolf Blitzer. Wolf asked Falcon if he heard his family calling his name while he was hiding Falcon answered “yes” and then proceeded to say “You guys said that, um, we did this for the show.”!!
Then this family made an appearance on The Today Show and poor Falcon threw up on live tv!!!
For this hoax Richard Heene was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 100 hours of community service and his wife Mayumi Heene was sentenced to 20 days in jail, to be served through jail-supervised community service for two days a week!
