According to court documents, Chacon walked into Zumiez at City Creek Center, 50 S. Main, wearing a ski mask on Friday, picked up a longboard valued at about $190 and started walking out the store.
When the assistant manager tried to stop him, Chacon said “Don’t get shot!” several times and reached into his pocket, the charges state. The assistant manager then let go of the board and Chacon left the store, according to the charges. The incident was captured on the store’s surveillance camera.
The next day, Chacon turned himself in to police, according to a police affidavit.
When interviewed by officers, Chacon said he took the board “because his mother would not give him money to purchase a longboard,” the charges state
